BOSTON– Boston-based Finegold Alexander Architects announced that Regan Shields Ives, AIA, ALEP, LEED AP, Principal and K-12 Educational studio leader at the firm, has been named President of the New England Chapter of the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE).

As President, Shields Ives will lead the A4LE New England chapter to promote membership, collaboration, and knowledge sharing opportunities for the professionals who inspire learning.

The Association for Learning Environments is a non-profit association with the sole purpose of improving the places where children learn. A4LE was first established in 1921 and continues to work towards a world in which place is a catalyst for inspired learning. As a Principal at the firm with over 20 years of experience, Shields Ives is passionate about educational design and creating spaces that are welcoming, safe, and inspiring for students, educators, and the community.

Shields Ives has been recognized for her outstanding work on Finegold Alexander’s educational projects, with a portfolio that includes work on numerous K-12 education facilities, such as Methuen High School, Gibbs School, Hardy School, Central Catholic High School’s Wellness and Innovation Center, and the Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School.

She also recently received the distinguished Accredited Learning Environments Planner (ALEP) designation from the A4LE Commission on Educational Facility Planning. The 10-month ALEP certification program is guided by the core competencies of ALEP: Educational Visioning, Community Engagement, Educational Facility Pre-Design Planning, Design of Educational Facilities, Educational Facility Implementation/Project Management/Project Delivery, Assessment of the School Facility, and Ethics/Professionalism.
