BOSTON–After two years of expanding their healthcare practice with studios in Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Miami, Architecture firm NELSON Worldwide has hired Bob Humenn, former principal of Steffian Bradley Architects after the firm abruptly closed its doors last week, NELSON said in a statement on its website.

“We were shocked to hear the news last week of the closing,” said Chairman & Co-CEO of NELSON, Ozzie Nelson Jr. “I’ve known Bob for a few years, and we are working together quickly to ensure his clients who were surprised by the sudden closure are able to move forward with projects that would otherwise halt. Hospitals and medical facilities play a critical role in the community, and we will try to offer as seamless a transition as we are able.”

Humenn will head up a new healthcare studio in NELSON’s Boston office. Formerly the Healthcare Architect and Principal, Humenn was with SBA for nearly thirty years. In addition to his work on multiple hospital, cancer center, and academic medical centers, he has led many projects through visioning and lean processes to create the ideal patient experience and collaborative environment for caregivers.

“I was with SBA for 27 years. When we found out the firm would be closing its doors, Ozzie was at the top of my list to call,” said Humenn. “I’m happy to find a home for myself, my clients, and hopefully some of my team at NELSON, and look forward to continuing the work I am passionate about.”

NELSON is interviewing additional SBA employees this week, with plans to hire. Boston will be the fourth Healthcare hub for the firm, who has worked with major healthcare clients including Penn Medicine, Pinnacle Health, Emory Healthcare, University of Miami Health System, and Drexel Medicine.
