Maynard, MA – JM Coull received 2019 Engineering News-Record Award of Merit for the Collings Foundation’s American Heritage Museum project.

The American Heritage Museum was one of 18 winning projects in the main categories of ENR New England’s Best Project contest. The museum, located in Hudson, MA, was recognized in the cultural/worship category. The awards ceremony was held on December 11th at the Hyatt Regency in Boston.

The design-build construction of the 65,000 sf museum displays the United States’ largest private collection of vehicles from the country’s past military conflicts. More than 48,000 sf of central exhibit space was built to house vehicles, artifacts, murals, and maps, with elevated viewing mezzanines spanning the entire area. Additionally, the museum features a walk-through replica of a World War I trench. The facility also comprises significant audio/visual components to enhance visitor experiences.

“This project was truly a unique experience for us in many ways,” comments JMC President Andy Coull. “The building itself is actually pre-engineered, which we’ve had plenty of experience with, and many of our projects are design-build, so from those aspects, the project was pretty routine. However, building a massive structure to house historic military tanks, automobiles, aircraft, and artifacts, all at different sizes and with varying clearance and maneuverability requirements, was certainly a new challenge. The end result provides visitors with a truly engaging and fascinating timeline of our country’s military history. I encourage everyone to visit if they can.”
