WALTHAM, MA—Boston Real Estate Times announced that Gwendolen Noyes, a partner at Oaktree Development, which has developed and is developing a number of transit-oriented projects across Greater Boston, will join the Transit-Oriented Commercial and Multifamily Development Summit as a speaker on Jan. 23 at Westin Hotel in Waltham, MA.

Ms. Noyes has been a partner of Oaktree Development and its predecessor, Unihab Inc, since 1973, when Arthur Klipfel and she founded Unihab. Her work in these multi-family housing development companies has been focused to date in Cambridge and several metropolitan Boston cities.

She is frequently working in neighborhoods that are apprehensive or resistant to change. Ms. Noyes has also led in the sociologically complex formation and development of the Cambridge Cohousing community, an award winning, and nationally acclaimed example of environmentally responsible design.

Ms Noyes has a Master of Architecture degree (honors) from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College. She has lived and worked in Cambridge, MA for 38 years, though she enjoyed brief working stints in Japan, Denmark, and NYC. She has traveled extensively and served as an officer and President of the Board for the Cambridge Center for Adult Education. She has also served as a founding trustee on the City of Cambridge’s Affordable Housing Trust, and is a member of Cambridge Friends’ Meeting (Quaker), where she heads the EarthCare Witness Committee.

Growing up on an organic farm in Illinois provided the ‘germ’ for Gwen’s concern for the environment, and has long found expression in the design of energy efficient, transit oriented, high-quality, multifamily housing that fosters a sense of community.

In addition, Oaktree Development has developed a number of transit-oriented and sustainable projects. The firm is currently working on St. James Episcopal Church, a green, transit-oriented, walkable project that will include apartments, retail space, parish house space, garage parking, exercise room, function room, common roof deck and an open landscaped courtyard; Brookside in West Concord; and a transit-oriented project under development in Newton, MA.

Boston Real Estate Times’ monthly summit on booming “Tansit-Oriented Commercial and Multifamily Developments” in Greater Boston will be held on Jan. 23 at Westin Hotel in Waltham, MA. A report from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) says that commercial development is increasingly likely to be built near public transportation, and looking out to 2030, 68 percent of commercial development projects in the pipeline are situated near transit.

Boston Real Estate Times’ Transit-Oriented summit will focus on the following:

  • Why transit-oriented development will remain in demand in the future?
  • How to identify transit-oriented development sites?
  • How to enhance value in existing sites near transit centers?
  • Job and commuting trends that will drive the market?
  • Private and public partnership on transit-oriented development.
  • Design and construction trends and incentives for transit-focused properties.
