Emily Grandstaff-Rice, FAIA, inaugurated AIA 2023 President

WASHINGTON – The American Institute of Architects (AIA) inaugurated Emily Grandstaff-Rice, FAIA, as its 99th president.

“The AIA is a window that looks towards a brighter, more sustainable, and equitable future for the profession,” said AIA 2023 President Emily Grandstaff-Rice, FAIA. “As AIA President, I will strive to ensure that AIA embraces diversity, responsiveness, and is a better reflection of the society we serve and what is best about being an architect.”

Grandstaff-Rice has held a variety of leadership positions at AIA National. In 2017, she was elected to serve as an 2018-2020 at-large director. Grandstaff-Rice also chaired the Equity and Future of Architecture Committee from 2017-2020 and the Equity in Architecture Commission from 2015-2016.  In 2014, she was President of the Boston Society of Architects.

Grandstaff-Rice is a senior project manager at Perkins & Will in Boston. Her design work has spanned academic, hospitality, institutional, and commercial projects. She has a Bachelor of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master of Liberal Arts in Educational Technology from Harvard University.

Grandstaff-Rice added, “I am honored that I have been entrusted by our colleagues to be a temporary steward of AIA leadership and service to the profession.”
