Elkus Manfredi Architects Ranked Largest Architectural Firm in Massachusetts

BOSTON– Elkus Manfredi Architects has been ranked the largest architectural firm in Massachusetts based on the 2016 architectural billings. The number two spot went to CBT Architects, according the list of top architectural firms published by Boston Business Journal.

Elkus Manfredi Architects ranked # 1 with a billing of $56.43 million in Massachusetts, followed by CBT Architects with $44.88 million;  Gensler: $44,46 million; Payette: $28,68 million; and Shepley Bulfinch: $25 million.

Boston Business Journal, which published the list of top 25 architectural firms in Massachusetts, said these firms accounted for $457 million in billings in Massachusetts.

“On last year’s list of the largest architectural firms in Massachusetts, the Boston Business Journal observed an upward trend that resulted in local billings increases for many companies in the area,” Boston Business Journal said. “That rosy picture has continued this year, with 14 of the 23 firms that have appeared on both the 2016 and 2017 versions of this list reporting year-over-year increases in Massachusetts architectural billings. Meanwhile, seven of the firms in the BBJ’s top 10 reported increases in total Bay State staff.”

Boston Business Journal said the three biggest local billings gains on this year’s list are as follows: Shepley Bulfinch, which grew its Massachusetts architectural billings to $25 million from approximately $9 million, an increase of 178 percent; Gensler, which grew its Massachusetts architectural billings to $44.4 million from $22 million, an increase of 102 percent; and Dyer Brown Architects, which grew its Massachusetts architectural billings to $9.7 million from $5.8 million, an increase of 67 percent.

“Collectively, this year’s top 25 firms on the BBJ list totaled $456,918,587 in architectural billings for projects in Massachusetts in 2016. This is compared with a cumulative total of $407,416,678 for the top 25 on the 2016 list,” Boston Business Journal reported.
