WOBURN, MA– The Cummings organization, made up of commercial real estate firm Cummings Properties and its affiliate Cummings Foundation, was named the Commonwealth’s “Top Charitable Contributor” at Boston Business Journal’s Corporate Citizenship Awards.

This is the fourth time the Woburn-based organization has achieved the No. 1 ranking.

During a September 10 virtual event, 107 companies were recognized for their giving to Massachusetts charities during calendar year 2019. The corporations’ total donations ranged from $100,000 to Cummings’ total of $29.3 million.

Granite Telecommunications and Mass General Brigham landed the second and third spots, respectively.

“Being a good corporate neighbor has been a priority since our organization’s founding 50 years ago,” said Eric Anderson, president of Cummings Properties and a trustee of Cummings Foundation. “We’re grateful to Boston Business Journal for shining a spotlight on local philanthropy, and we are proud to be part of such a generous business community.”

Most of the buildings managed by Cummings Properties are owned by Cummings Foundation and operated for its sole benefit. All of the rental profits from those buildings support local nonprofits, primarily through the Foundation’s annual grant program. The organization has awarded more than $280 million to date in greater Boston alone.

“We owe thanks to the more than 2,000 businesses that lease commercial real estate from Cummings Properties and help make this level of giving possible,” said Anderson.

Cummings Properties operates buildings in 11 suburban communities. TradeCenter 128 in Woburn and Cummings Center in Beverly are its largest and most visible properties.

In June, Cummings Foundation announced $20 million in grants to be shared by 130 local nonprofits. The organization contributed a total of $1 million this spring to six Massachusetts emergency funds in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
