Cambridge, MA – Construction Manager Colantonio Inc. has begun construction on the Revitalization of 116 Norfolk Street Project for the Cambridge Housing Authority.
The project, designed by HMFH Architects, is a gut rehab of a 4 1/2-story masonry building that was originally constructed in 1907.
Colantonio will convert the 38 single room occupancy units into studio apartments and build a 25,000 square foot, wood frame addition to house another 24 studio apartments.
The building will receive a new common kitchen, waste disposal system, and an expanded laundry room. A new all-electric variable refrigerant flow heating and cooling system will also be installed.
The new units will provide housing for people who have experienced chronic homelessness and/or are elderly or living with disabilities.
