BOSTON—The Boston Society for Architecture (BSA) recently welcomed design advocate Benjamin Peterson to its staff as community design director.

Peterson will lead initiatives that further the BSA’s goal of providing every neighborhood in Boston, and particularly those currently underserved by design, with access to design resources. His work will continue the BSA’s legacy of using design to create safer and healthier communities.

Peterson most recently was education director at the Boston Architectural College, where he led students in a number of initiatives related to civic engagement and community design. Notable initiatives include Gateway and the Huxtable Fellowship, programs in which students acquire professional skills and experience working on design projects that benefit Greater Boston nonprofits, community organizations, and municipalities.

“We’re delighted that Ben Peterson has accepted this position,” said Eric White, BSA executive director. “His experience creating linkages between communities, nonprofits, and design professionals will enable us to deepen our relationships within Greater Boston neighborhoods where we are using design to equitably address challenges such as climate change and housing.”
