Marlborough, MA – Universal Window and Door, a manufacturer of custom window solutions for historic restoration and commercial construction projects, provided windows for a half-dozen of the historic restoration projects that were recently honored with the 2017 Paul & Niki Tsongas Awards by Preservation Massachusetts, the non-profit historic preservation organization dedicated to preserving the Commonwealth’s historic and cultural heritage.

The winners will be feted at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel on May 10th at a dinner that will honor “these projects that demonstrate the Power of Preservation and what it has done and can do for our communities across the Commonwealth,”  according to a release by Preservation Massachusetts.

Universal supplied windows to over a quarter of the 22 projects that were honored, including: Abbott Mill in Westford (which won Best Overall Project and added 100 additional apartment units to the existing complex); Junction Shop Mill (Junction Shop Lofts) in Worcester, which was transformed into 173 apartment units; the United Teen Equality Center (UTEC) in Lowell; Malden Mills in Lawrence, which was converted into 62 units of affordable housing, known as Phase II of Loft Five50; the Edge at Union Station in Worcester, which adapted the historic Osgood Bradley building into 81 suites which house approximately 250 students; and the Powerhouse, a 1925 brick steam plant at Amherst College that was re-born as a student activities center.

“Being a part of so many projects that were recognized by Preservation Massachusetts is a tremendous source of pride for our employees as well as a testament to our growing reputation among developers and construction firms as the go-to window manufacturer for historic renovation projects,” said Tony Muraco, President & CEO of Universal Window and Door.

Preservation Massachusetts (PM) is the statewide non-profit historic preservation organization dedicated to preserving the Commonwealth’s historic and cultural heritage. It was established in 1989 and is supported entirely by members and concerned citizens.
