Kevin Phelan of Colliers Receives James Landauer/John White Award

BOSTON– One of Boston’s iconic Boston commercial real estate professionals Kevin Phelan, co-chairman of Colliers International, Boston has received the 2016 James Landauer/John White Award from The Counselors of Real Estate® professional association.

He formally accepted the honor at the Counselors’ annual convention held at the Four Seasons in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, September 27. The Landauer/White Award annually recognizes an individual who has furthered the ideals of The Counselors of Real Estate®—integrity, competence, community, trust and selflessness.

First awarded in 1986, previous winners of this honor include industry stalwarts such as Dan Rose of New York City’s Rose Associates, Hank Spaulding, co-founder of Spaulding & Slye Corporation, Jeremiah O’Connor, managing partner of Manhattan-based O’Connor Capital Partners, and George Lovejoy, former 1991 Meredith & Grew president. Phelan was chosen by his peers for his leadership in the real estate field and contributions to his community.

Kevin Phelan is a Change Agent whose life has been spent lifting those of others, especially the children of Boston to whom he is particularly devoted” said Mary Fleischmann, chief executive officer of The Counselors of Real Estate.

Phelan joined Meredith & Grew in 1978 to create the Capital Markets group, which is now one of the two largest in the region. Phelan was appointed president in 2007 a year before Meredith & Grew officially joined the Colliers brand in 2008. In 2010 Phelan was appointed co-chairman at Colliers. Today the 14-person Capital Markets group represents nearly 20 institutions as its New England correspondent. Additionally, the Capital Markets group maintains a servicing portfolio valued in excess of one billion dollars. Over the course of his career, Phelan has been involved in several billion dollars in financing across the U.S.

Phelan has served on correspondent advisory councils for both AEGON U.S.A. Realty Advisors, Inc. and Nationwide Life, in addition to presiding on numerous boards and committees for organizations such as Providence College, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, Archdiocese of Boston, Crossroads, and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. Phelan also founded Kevin Phelan’s Breakfast Group, which provides a place for community leaders to gather and set the tone for civic engagement within the city.Phelan is often recognized for his superior expertise in real estate as well as his commitment to the community. Two notable honors include the New England Baptist Hospital’s 2011 Legendary Leader Award as well as the Boston Chamber of Commerce’s 2006 Distinguished Bostonian Award. Phelan attended Providence College where he received a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration and then continued on to Boston College for his Master of Business Administration.
