In this advocacy role, Goodmonson will serve as a liaison to ACEC of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) and ensure clear two-way communication on legislation and industry best practices. He is the immediate past-president of ACEC/MA, and his two-year term will commence in April.

Goodmonson will also serve as a director on the Executive Committee for the Council of American Mechanical and Electrical Engineers (CAMEE), is a member of the transportation committee, and is an active participant on the small firm council.

“Joel is a proven leader in the engineering industry and his resume of ACEC involvement makes him a natural choice for the Executive Committee,” said David A. Raymond, president and CEO of ACEC. “With a solid foundation of public policy, state and local involvement, and business ownership, we are looking forward to an exciting and valuable term with him on the board.”

The ACEC Executive Committee acts on behalf of the board of directors, providing guidance in carrying out board-approved policies and programs. It also recommends policies for board consideration and advises the board on financial matters. The committee meets in person four times per year, and officers volunteer their time and talents toward making lasting contributions to the engineering industry.

“I firmly believe engineering is critical to society, and that healthy and vibrant firms are critical to the success and growth of the United States,” said Goodmonson. “I love engineering, and believe professional volunteerism is the most productive way to protect and enhance the business of engineering, while advocating on behalf of our profession and the role ACEC plays within it. I’m excited to extend this stewardship into a new role on the national board.”

As a member of ACEC/MA, Goodmonson served as president-elect and president; is a member of the Building Engineering and Qualification Based Selection (QBS) committees; is past chair of the Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) committee; is a past member of the programs committee; was a member of the board of directors from 2009-2011; and served as vice president from 2011-2012. He is also the Governor-appointed vice-chair of the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Professional Engineering and Land Surveying, and participated on the complaint investigation and 250 CMR rewrite committees. He also served as commissioner for the water department and the department of public works for the town of Wayland.

Goodmonson graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. In addition to ACEC, he is a member the National Council for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), is a LEED accredited professional, and is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, California, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
