15 Growing Massachusetts Firms Named Winners of MassEcon’s “Impact” Awards

WATERTOWN, MA – MassEcon, the state’s private sector partner in promoting business growth in Massachusetts,  announced its Fourteenth Annual Team Massachusetts Economic Impact Award winners, recognizing 15 companies for their outstanding contributions to the Massachusetts economy.

The companies were selected on the basis of job growth, facility expansion, investment, and community involvement since Jan. 1, 2016. The winners  will be honored at a luncheon on Nov. 21, 2017 at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel, with Citizens Bank as presenting sponsor.

The winning companies (listed below) were selected after site visits and a reception with their competitors and judges at Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP.

“Massachusetts is fortunate to have an involved, diverse and generous business community, and we are happy to recognize these exceptional leaders today,” said Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Jay Ash. “Maintaining strong relationships between public and private sectors is crucial to long term economic growth, and providing community access to job opportunities across the Commonwealth.”

Silver: Brammer Bio of Cambridge – Brammer Bio is a cell and gene therapy biologics contract development and manufacturing company that added 50,000 square feet in Lexington, 66,000 square feet in Cambridge, and 49,000 square feet in Somerville. The company has invested roughly $41 million and added 125 jobs. www.brammerbio.com/

Bronze: Clarks Americas of Waltham – HClarks Americas in the world’s largest family-owned “brown shoe” company. Clarks invested $20 million in a 120,000 square foot expansion in Waltham and added 30 jobs. www.clarksusa.com/us/

Central Winners

Gold: Avecia of Milford – Nitto Denko Avecia is a company specializing in oligonucleotide production (short DNA or RNA molectules) and assists clients with pharmaceutical drug development. The company added 20,000 square feet to its Milford location, invested $40 million, and added 120 jobs. www.avecia.com/Avecia/

Silver: Cumberland Farms of Westborough – Cumberland Farms is a HQ and distribution center for fuel and convenience store retailers. The company invested $15.5 million in a 110,000 square foot headquarters and distribution center in Westborough and added 50 jobs. www.cumberlandfarms.com/

Bronze: SMC Ltd. of Devens – SMC Ltd. Is a leading contract manufacturer of various medical devices and medical equipment that ivnetsed $43 million in its 87,000 square foot expansion in Devens.  smcltd.com

Gold: Kronos of Lowell – Kronos delivers human capital management and workforce management solutiosn in the cloud to help organizations attract, retain, and develop engaged employees. The company expanded in Lowell by 505,644 square feet, invested over $68 million and added 193 jobs. www.kronos.com/

Silver: EMD Serono of Billerica – EMD Serono specializes in developeing therapies needed by patients with difficult to treat diseases. The company invested $12 million in a 31,000 square foot expansion in Billerica and added 204 jobs. www.emdserono.com/en/index.html

Bronze: Abiomed of Danvers – Abiomed is a leading manufacturer of medical devices that provide circulatory support. The company added 100,000 square feet, invested $40 million and 150 jobs in Danvers. www.abiomed.com/

Gold: Cold Chain Technologies of Franklin – Cold Chain Technologies is a thermal packaging solutions designer, manufacturer, and distributor of temperature sensitive products for various companies in the life sciences field. The company invested $10 million in its Franklin location, added 88,000 square feet and 25 jobs. www.coldchaintech.com/

Silver: Metropolitan Cabinets & Countertops of Norwood – Metropolitan Cabinets & Countertops is a manufacturer and distributor of a wide variety of kitchen cabinets and countertops that expanded in Norwood by 60,000 square feet, invested nearly $6 million and added 45 jobs. metcabinet.com/

Bronze: New England Ice Cream Corporation of Norton – New England Ice Cream Corporation is a regional leader in production, sales, and distribution of frozen dessert products that invested $12.5 million in a 58,000 square foot expansion in Norton and added 31 jobs. newenglandicecream.com/

Gold: U.S. Tsubaki of Chicopee – U.S. Tsubaki is a leading manufacturer and supplier of automotive parts and designer of driving systems that invested $32 million in a 100,000 square foot expansion in Chicopee and added 32 jobs. www.ustsubaki.com/index.html

Silver: Interprint of Pittfsfield – Interprint is a global company and a leading designer and décor printer for the laminate industry that expanded its Pittsfield footprint by 27,000 square feet, invested $2.5 million, and added 5 jobs. www.interprint.com/

Bronze: Avista Pharma Solutions of Agawam – Avista Pharma Solutions is a leading U.S.-based contract testing, development, and manufacturing company for the pharmaceutical industry that invested $4 million in a 4,200 square foot expansion in Agawam and added 26 jobs. www.avistapharma.com/
